Supporting School Education in the Irrawaddy Delta

Continuing our support after Cyclone Nargis we helped the Diocese of Pathein in 2010 to obtain funding for the continuing education and accommodation of 700 boys and girls in the Irrawaddy Delta. Almost 2 years after Cyclone Nargis these children cannot continue their education in their home villages in the cyclone-affected areas. The schools have not been rebuilt or parents or relatives are unable to support their children as a consequence of the cyclone. The number of children in need of support decreased little: in 2008, 800 children needed support from the Diocese, in 2009/2010 the number decreased to 700 children.
